Java Software Developer

Description:

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated professional to join our IT division as a Java software developer. The position requires the the ability to

  • define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain new and pre-existing software programs and applications;
  • actively participate in code/design reviews and brainstorming sessions;
  • develop program and system documentation;
  • analyze and fix software errors in a timely and accurate fashion;
  • consult with users, architects, project leaders, and management to resolve problems and suggest alternatives; and
  • assist with other duties in the department when requested by management.

Responsibilities:

The required work involves all aspects of software development including analysis of requirements, software design, programming, testing, and documenting software. On-site training is provided.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Java, SQL, DB2, Struts, JSF, AJAX, Web Services, Spring, Eclipse, and/or JUnit is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery is a plus.
  • Enthusiasm for driving improvement by finding and implementing solutions to new challenges.
  • Must be able to learn and effectively use tools and software development techniques as practiced, acquired, or adopted within IT.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college, university, or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required. Desired majors include the following.

IT Server Engineer

Description:

This position consists of activities related to the installation and technical support of computer servers and their applications in the company under close supervision and direction.

  • Providing installation, training and support for computer server hardware and software using industry best practices.
  • Monitoring server performance for potential hardware problems and employ appropriate fixes.
  • Providing solutions for problems and questions pertaining to computer servers software applications and documenting specific incidents.
  • Providing research and development services for computer server hardware and software.
  • Providing recommendations to management regarding improvements to computer server hardware and software.
  • Performing a variety of duties requiring specialized knowledge and training.
  • Assisting with other duties as needed within the department or elsewhere.

Responsibilities:

Skills:

  • Computer server installations and maintenance experience is desirable.
  • Microsoft technologies that may include:
    • Server 2008, 2012

    • Active Directory
    • IIS
    • Windows PowerShell
    • Microsoft System Center products (SCCM, SCOM)
  • Server Virtualization technologies

  • Making logical and sound decisions under supervision
  • Working occasionally outside the normal business hours
  • Clearly articulating thoughts and ideas verbally and in writing by preparing business correspondence that is effective and professional
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
